WESTPORT–The No. 4 seeded Staples girls soccer got goals from Emme Dorfman and Maddy Johnson in a 2-1 win over No 5 and visiting Trumbull in the FCIAC Tournament quarterfinals on Tuesday. Riely Gullans and Emily Shiel had assists.
The Wreckers will face top seed Greenwich in the semifinals at neutral site Fairfield Ludlowe Friday at 5 p.m. Staples lost to Greenwich 2-1 in mid September.
On the other side of the bracket, No. 7 Darien, which upset No. 2 New Canaan 1-0, will face No. 3 St. Joseph, which survived in penalty kicks against No. 6 Ridgefield. That game was scoreless after regulation before St. Joseph prevailed 4-1 in PKs. The teams will meet Friday at 7 p.m., also at Ludlowe at 7 p.m.
