WESTPORT – Following good turnout and enthusiasm surrounding the first town-wide tag sale last spring, the event is coming back this October.

Westport’s second town-wide tag sale will take place on Saturday, Oct.17, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The rain date will be Sunday, Oct. 18.

Rather than hosting the event in one location, residents throughout Westport sign up to host individual tag sales at their homes. The Nolan Team, a Westport-based real estate team at Compass, handles the town-wide promotion and creates an official map of participating homes, allowing shoppers to plan their route and visit sales throughout town.

Last spring, more than 45 homes participated, according to Lindsay Sutter, marketing assistant with the team.

For this fall, the group was hoping to get at least 20 homes to join. “Already, we’ve surpassed that goal with 22 homes signed up – and counting,” Sutter said. Some of those people are signing up for a second time, she added.

Sutter said that she believes that removing the pressure of having to advertise an individual sale is a big appeal to homeowners. “They can focus on hosting their sale, while we focus on getting shoppers there,” she said.

She added that people seemed to love the sense of community created by the event and giving items a second life rather than buying new.

This fall, the team is partnering with the United Breast Cancer Foundation to offer participants the opportunity to have eligible unsold items picked up after the sale and donated to the organization.

“We loved the idea of extending the impact of the event beyond the sale itself and making it even easier for homeowners to participate,” Sutter said.

The Nolan Team is a Westport-based real estate team at Compass, which sponsors and manages the planning, promotion and logistics of the event. The team is led by mother-and-son duo Lynee and Jake Nolan, along with team agent Miki Scarfo.
