DARIEN–The Staples girls soccer team ended the regular season with two shutouts, including a last-minute stunner over Darien. Last night, after 79-plus minutes of scoreless soccer and the clock winding down, the game was destined to end in a scoreless tie. But Emme Dorfman had other ideas. The Staples soccer player scored, off an assist from Alexa Van Aken, with just 14 seconds left and the Wreckers shocked host Darien 1-0.

It was Staples’ second consecutive shutout victory. The Wreckers beat visiting Wilton 3-0 on Tuesday. Neave Mulvey scored twice and Van Aken found the back of the net.  Ella Grove had two assists and Ruby Boroujerdi assisted a goal.

Staples finishes with a record of 9-4-2 in FCIAC play and is the No. 4 seed for the upcoming FCIAC Tournament. Matchups have not yet been announced but it appears the Wreckers will visit No. 4 seed Trumbull (12-3) in the Tuesday, Oct. 27 quarterfinals. Trumbull defeated Staples 1-0 on Sept. 18.
