WESTPORT–A Port Chester, N.Y., man was arrested after allegedly taking a woman he’d had a relationship with on a wild ride through Westport, and assaulting her as he drove, until he crashed near Interstate 95, Westport Police said today.
Vanderval Ferreira, 28, allegedly grew upset after his relationship with his woman ended, police said. In the following days, he allegedly called and texted her several times, including texting threats to kill her, police said.
Last Thursday, the woman agreed to meet up with Ferreira and got into his car, a four-door BMW 330i.
Ferreira allegedly drove “extremely erratically” along Westport roads, with the woman in the car, police said. When the victim tried to get out of the car, Ferreira allegedly began striking her and restraining her. This allegedly continued until he struck a guard rail and spun out of control while trying to enter Interstate 95 at exit 17, police said.
The crash gave the victim the opportunity to jump out of the car and flee, evading Ferreira as he allegedly drove at her, according to the police. She then escaped him by hiding, police said.
Police obtained an arrest warrant for Ferreira in connection with the incident. On Friday, the same day the victim had reported the incident to Westport police, Ferreira was arrested by Stamford police on weapon- and drug-related charges, including allegedly stealing a gun, court records show. While incarcerated on those charges, Ferreira was taken to Superior Court in Stamford on Westport’s warrant, according to court records.
Westport police charged him with first-degree kidnapping and first-degree attempted assault, both felonies, plus four misdemeanors: second-degree harassment, third-degree assault, second-degree threatening and first-degree reckless endangerment.
He is being held on $500,000 bond for the Westport charges and $1.5 million for the Stamford charges. He is due back in Superior Court in Stamford on Dec. 15.
