Editor’s note: following is an opinion submitted by Westporter Neil Phillips. Phillips is the secretary and a member of the Board of Education.

I am writing to express my strong support for Lee Goldstein as Westport State Representative. I have had the opportunity to work alongside Lee on our local Board of Education for many years. During that time, I have come to know her as someone who is thoughtful, hardworking, knowledgeable, and deeply committed to our community. She shows up fully prepared and engaged to tackle complex issues.

Lee has demonstrated the kind of leadership that I believe is essential in public office. On the Board of Education, where she has served as its Chair for the past five of her seven years of board service, Lee has been a strong voice for thoughtful long-term planning, responsible stewardship of our town’s resources, and making the investments necessary to maintain and improve our schools. She has played a leading role in addressing major capital projects and has helped guide the Board through a successful and responsible budget process year after year.

What has impressed me most about Lee is the way she approaches difficult issues. She listens carefully, asks thoughtful questions, considers the long-term consequences of decisions, and works diligently toward practical solutions. She understands that effective government requires not only vision, but also fiscal responsibility and the ability to work collaboratively with others. Our Board of Education has been exceptionally well served by Lee’s thoughtful and steady leadership.

After nearly a decade of knowing Lee, I have seen firsthand the dedication, judgment, and integrity she brings to public service. I am confident that she will bring those same qualities to her role as State Representative.

Our community would be well served by Lee Goldstein, and I strongly encourage voters to support her candidacy!

Sincerely,

Neil Phillips
