WESTPORT–Staples field hockey moved a step closer to a repeat FCIAC Championship, as the top seed earned a 7-0 home win over the No. 8 seed Trumbull Eagles in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Leah Larit and Daisy Hackett both scored twice and Chloe Smith, Catherine Cirasuolo and Oakley Wilson all scored.
Mary Stevens logged three assists, Larit had two assists and Ava Pattinson assisted a goal.
Up next is a date with No. 5 Fairfield Ludlowe in the semifinals at neutral site Greenwich High at 2 p.m. Ludlowe defeated No. 4 New Canaan 2-1.
The winner will face either No. 2 Darien (a 2-0 winner over No. 7 Ridgefield) or No. 6 Greenwich.
Greenwich upset No. 3 Wilton 4-3 in penalty strokes. In the state-wide Class L rankings, Wilton was ranked the No. 2 team, behind only Staples.
The championship game will be held in Greenwich on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.
