WESTPORT–No better way to celebrate the final-year players than to have all six of them score on Senior Day. Yet the Staples High field hockey team did one better. Make that two better.
Both Wrecker goaltenders, Olivia Pattinson and Paige Knesich, played half the game in the field and, not only combined on a shutout, but even contributed to the scoring barrage in a 10-0 win over Westhill on Wednesday.
Pattinson, in fact, scored twice. Fellow seniors Mary Stevens, Eve Dolan, Catherine Cirasuolo and Ella Ledenko also hit the back of the cage.
Junior Leah Larit and freshman Ava Pattinson (two goals) joined the scoring party.
Leah Larit logged a trio of assists and Emilie Russell, Stevens, Leya Chaves and Daisy Hackett all had assists.
Staples defeated host McMahon 7-0 on Thursday, Katie Larit and Ledenko both scored twice. Hackett, Lucy Hill and Oakley Wilson also scored and Stevens recorded a pair of assists.
Staples, 14-0 including 10 shutouts, visits Ridgefield in the regular-season finale on Monday at 4 p.m. before embarking on FCIAC and State playoff runs. The Wreckers are defending conference and state champs.
