DARIEN–With Paige Knesich making 14 saves, Staples field hockey improves to 9-0.

The Staples field hockey team defeated host Darien 2-1 in a huge FCIAC battle on Thursday. The Wreckers improved to 9-0 overall and handed Darien its first FCIAC loss of the campaign. The Blue Wave stand at 5-2-1.

This was the first time the two teams have played each other since the Wreckers beat Darien in the Class L state championship last year. Staples also defeated Darien in the FCIAC title match last year.

Leah Larit and Daisy Hackett both scored and Mary Stevens notched an assist.

Goaltender Paige Knesich was stellar in the cage, coming up with 14 saves to preserve the win.

The Wreckers will host St. Joseph of Trumbull Monday, Sept. 29 at 4 p.m.
