TRUMBULL — Stapes High’s field hockey team made it two straight games to begin the season without allowing a goal.

The Wreckers followed up a 1-0 blanking of the visiting Greenwich Cardinals on Wednesday with a 4-0 victory over the host Trumbull Eagles on Friday night.

Catherine Cirasuolo, Ella Ledenko, Hackett and Ava Pattinson all had goals. Leah Larit,  Emilie Russell and Katie Larit all had assists.

Staples dominated possession and racked up 18 penalty corners, scoring off three of them.

Coach Ian Tapsall would like for his team to capitalize more on its chances and noted the Wreckers will have to adapt to the long turf surface Trumbull and many other teams use.

“We’re physically fit. Fitness is there — it’s just finishing,” Tapsall said.

In the win over Greenwich, Daisy Hackett scored a goal assisted by Katie Larit. Goaltender Paige Knesich made 10 saves to earn the win. Center defender Ledenko played solidly in front of the cage.

“Massive — regardless of the score,” Tapsall said of the season-opening win over a challenging FCIAC rival.

Staples will return to game action on Wednesday, Sept. 10, when Norwalk visits at 4 p.m.
