Staples Boys Soccer Scores Another Shutout

BRIDGEPORT — Despite missing four starters with nagging injuries, the Staples boys soccer team shut out Bridgeport Central 7-0 on Wednesday, at Kennedy Stadium. The Hilltoppers were also missing a few players.

Matt Shackelford – starting his first game – kicked things off for the Wreckers, picking up a loose ball and scoring in the 20th minute.

Two more first-half goals followed, from Reese Watkins and Avery Mueller. Shackelford assisted both.

Second-half strikes came from Matthew Jordan, Ryan Thomas, Aidan Mermagen and Mueller. Assists were registered by Mueller (two), Thomas and Spencer Levine.

Staples is now 7-1-3. They travel for the third time this week on Friday, visiting St. Joseph. Kickoff is 4 p.m.
