WESTPORT — It took a huge volume of commitment by more than 200 volunteers to make a “huge success” of the recent Fall Book Sale at the Westport Library, according to event organizers.

In short, as noted by the African proverb, “It takes a village” — helping hands from across the Westport community, in this case — to pull off an event like the four-day book lovers’ extravaganza.

Volunteers helped with all aspects of the sale, sorting and setting up the vast selection of books, as well as DVDs, CDs and vinyl records. They also helped with an array of tasks during the sale and then pitched in to dismantle what remained.

In a thank-you statement issued to all the book sale volunteers, organizers said:

“We would like to give a particular shout out to the multiple organizations that supported the effort this sale including and not limited to: Westport Young Woman’s League, Neighbors and Newcomers of Westport, Abilis, Westport Library staff, Staples Service League of Boys (SLOBS), Westport National Charity League, Builders Beyond Borders (B3) and Staples High School National Honor Society.”

Proceeds from the sale support the Westport Library, and employment for adults with disabilities, according to the library.

More than 200 people volunteered over the course of the four-day event.
