WESTPORT — A Staples High School junior has been selected as an “ambassador” by a national group promoting financial literacy.

Andrew Rebello is among the students who achieved a score of 95 percent or better on the 2022-23 financial literacy certification test sponsored by Working in Support of Education, otherwise known as “W!se.” 

Based on the test results, he was eligible to apply for the W!se Financial Literacy Ambassador Award, and was selected as one of five recipients by a panel of judges.

Rebello and the four other ambassadors each receive a $1,000 prize.

The program’s goal, according to the W!se website, is “to help high school students graduate as financially capable young adults. Participating high schools teach a course or unit on personal finance and then administer our national, standardized Financial Literacy Certification Test.”

The award recipients “have demonstrated a strong desire and commitment to promote financial literacy in their community, not only during but also after they leave high school,” David Anderson, the president and CEO of W!se, said in a press statement.
