WESTPORT–Balducci’s, the upscale market at 1385 Post Road East, will close by the end of February. But customers won’t see a change until after the holidays, a spokesperson said.
“Everything that everyone loves about Balducci’s during the holidays will still be available,” said spokesperson Dana Ward. That includes catering services and gift baskets, she said, adding, “You won’t see any changes in the store until after Jan. 1.”
Ward said the decision to close was “a real estate decision.” The company will place as many of the 59 non-union employees as possible at another location and will offer severance packages to the rest, Ward said.
The loss of the Westport store will leave one Connecticut Balducci’s, in Old Greenwich. Two more operate in Westchester County, N.Y. – in Scarsdale and Rye Brook. Two more operate in Virginia and one in Maryland.
The Balducci’s stores have been owned by Albertsons Companies since 2020.
