WESTPORT–Staples boys basketball blew out visiting Brien McMahon 81-41 on Friday night. The Wreckers improved to 5-0 behind a decisive advantage in both 3-point shooting and rebounding.
Coach David Goldshore’s squad hit 11 of 23 attempts from beyond the 3-point line and McMahon was 0-for-14 from downtown. The Wreckers out-rebounded the Senators 42-14.
Staples outscored its opponent 18-8 in each of the first two quarters to seize a 36-16 halftime advantage and continued to pull away in the second half.
When all was said and done five Wreckers scored in double figures led by Sam Clachko and Mason Tobias each with 17. Clachko pulled down seven rebounds to go along with seven assists. Tobias grabbed nine rebounds, had an assist and came away with a pair of steals.
Matty Corrigan scored 13 points and collected four rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. Dhilan Lowman dropped in 12 points, had four rebounds, two assists and blocked a shot, Austin Heyer scored 11 and contributed two assists.
Lowman hit four 3-pointers and Corrigan and Clachko each drained a pair of 3s.
Jack Jacib had seven rebounds, two assists and a block and Henry Veissid had five rebounds, one steal and one block.
The Wreckers will host Norwalk High Tuesday at 7 p.m.
