WESTPORT–Staples boys basketball improved to 9-0 with four convincing wins in six days this past week.

The Wreckers followed up a 70-56 win over visiting Norwalk on Tuesday, Jan. 13 with a 67-38 victory at Stamford two nights later. Then came the Hoophall Invitational in Springfield, Mass. where the Wreckers dismantled Taconic 92-32 and dominated Scarsdale 66-44 over the weekend.

On Saturday, the 92-point effort featured 15 Wreckers registering points in a balanced scoring attack. Sam Clachko scored 11, Jack Jacob had 10, Drew Hill and Austin Heyer both had nine, Jared Sale and Dhilan Lowman each dropped in eight, and Mason Tobias and Henry Veissid each added seven.

Staples outrebounded Taconic 36-13 led by Jacob’s seven rebounds.

On Sunday, Lohman scored 16, Matty Corrigan 15 and Tobias 14 and Clachko 11 to carry the offense against Scarsdale. Tobias had 13 rebounds and eight assists. Clachko grabbed nine rebounds and had seven assists. Hill came away with four of Staples’ 10 steals.

Against Stamford, Clachko and Tobias dropped in 15 points each, Corrigan had 14 points and five steals, and Heyer scored 11.

In the win over Norwalk, Clachko had 18, Heyer 17, Lowman 16 and Tobias 13. Clachko dished out nine assists and had four steals. Heyer had five steals as the Wreckers won that overall takeaway battle 13-2. Corrigan blocked three shots.

Staples visits Darien Tuesday and entertains Greenwich Friday, both at 7 p.m.
