WESTPORT – Staples football manhandled Stamford 49-6 in its home opener on Friday.
Quarterback Nick Weil completed 9 of 12 pass attempts for 239 yards and completed touchdown passes to four receivers.
Justin Halky had four catches for 74 yards and a pair of TDs, one on an interception return.
Connor Petrosino had a 52 yard TD catch, and Jules Cicero had a 40-yard TD reception.
Charlie Clark had a TD catch and Pato Garcia rushed for a score. Jake McGeehan had two catches for 65 yards to help spark the offense.
The Wreckers are back in action to host West Haven Friday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. – a rematch of the 2023 state title game.
