TRUMBULL — The Staples High School boys soccer team won its second consecutive 7-0 match Friday at St. Joseph. That’s the third win in five days for the Wreckers. Thirteen different players have scored during the 18-goal eruption.
Jackson Hochhauser’s free kick started things off at St. Joe’s. A goalmouth scramble with Will Adams and Jaden Mueller got the ball to Dylan Hoke, who finished well.
The sophomore midfielder got his second straight goal a few minutes later. Caleb Tobias cut a good pass across the goalmouth. Matt Shackelford shot, and Hoke buried the rebound.
Shackelford earned his second consecutive assist, feeding Reese Watkins. Jack Foster’s long-range shot ended the first half scoring.
The second half featured three assists by Matthew Jordan; the first varsity goals for Ben Douglas and Sam Vannart, and a rip by Ryan Thomas.
Surging Staples is now 8-1-3. Their toughest test of the season looms Monday. The FCIAC’s first place team, Norwalk (9-1-2) comes to the Wreckers’ Loeffler Field, for a key match for both teams.
