WESTPORT–Thursday’s matchup between two excellent FCIAC Girls Soccer teams was expected to be close. Saint Joseph was undefeated coming into this game. Staples was 6-2-2.

Staples’ excellent defense did not allow a goal, but neither did St. Joseph. The game ended in a 0-0 draw.

Cami Kolek had a terrific save on a foul kick with six minutes left in the first half. 

The defense in the second half was tight. Sami DeWitt blocked a foul kick by Saint Joseph and Neva Mergamen blocked a corner kick. Kolek notched three more saves.

Unfortunately, the Staples offense was unable to score a goal and the final score was 0-0.

Next up: Staples travels to Norwalk for a 4 p.m. game Monday.
