Mary Jean Lee (nee Henderlich), of Roswell, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Oct. 28 at home with her husband and daughters by her side.

Mary was born in 1953 in Elmore, Ohio, the daughter of Alvin and Norma (Nissen) Henderlich. She graduated from Woodmore High School in 1971, then went on to Bowling Green State University where she met her husband Dennis. The two of them began a journey that took them to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Columbus, Ohio, Topeka, Kansas, St. Louis, Missouri, and to Westport, where they raised their 2 daughters, Stephanie (Rizas) and Amy (Boe). In Westport, Mary excelled as president of the Westport Young Women’s League, spearheading initiatives that significantly impacted the local community.

She was always lighting up a room, whether it was at the bowling alley with her weekly bowling group or in the evenings at home with her family. She was remarkably creative – whether sewing, crafting, or creating something with her museum-worthy shell collection. After her daughters graduated high school and Dennis retired, they relocated to Mary’s dream location in Naples, Florida where Mary added yet another talent to her creative skills growing endlessly impressive and beautiful orchids. Not to be deterred from her favorite hobbies, Mary started another bowling club in Florida bringing a whole new group of women together. She played golf and never missed an opportunity to decorate her golf cart impressively.

After Covid, Mary and Dennis moved to Roswell, Georgia, not far from their daughter Amy. She enjoyed the mild seasons in Georgia and exploring new restaurants with Dennis.

Remaining to cherish Mary’s memory are her loving husband Dennis, her daughters Stephanie (John) and Amy (Richie); and her grandchildren, Everett, Lydia, Thalia, Colin, Malcolm, and Vivienne.

Preceding Mary in death are her parents Alvin and Norma Henderlich and infant grandson Parker Boe.

A Celebration of Life will take place some time in the spring.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the wonderful caregivers and hospice team for their compassionate care and support during Mary’s illness. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the Integrated Memory Care Center at Emory University.
