WESTPORT — A controversial penalty kick call and goal three minutes from the end of the game lifted Fairfield Warde to a 2-0 victory over Staples in the boys FCIAC quarterfinals Friday at Wakeman Field.
The Wreckers had a strong second half, peppering the Mustangs with shots. But the visitors’ defense was strong, securing victory.
There is one more prize left for Staples. The state “LL” (extra large schools) tournament begins Tuesday, November 9. Pairings will be announced next week.
