Staples girls basketball heads into a week-plus long holiday break from game action with a 2-0 record.

The Wreckers followed a season-opening 86-25 win over Cheshire on Dec. 12 with a 58-48 victory over Amity of Woodbridge in the Anthony Ireland Holiday Classic at Crosby High in Waterbury on Dec. 20. Tuesday’s scheduled visit to Torrington got postponed.

In the win over Amity Chloe Smith scored 20 points, Addie Talbott had 15 and Freya Harvey 12 to lead the offense.

Harvey and Talbott both had seven rebounds, Marley Belzer grabbed nine rebounds to go along with six points. Harvey handed out five assists and Talbott came away with five steals.

The Wreckers will visit Masuk of Monroe Monday, Dec. 29 at 12 p.m. then host New Canaan Tuesday, Jan. 6 at 7 p.m.
