WESTPORT — A Mercedes was stolen Monday from a Post Road East gas station while the owner was pumping gas, police said.

The incident took place about 3:45 p.m. Monday at the Exxon station, 485 Post Road East, according to the report.

The owner, who suffered minor injuries, was pumping gas for a black 2022 Mercedes Benz GLS when police said a witness reported that “a young black male” left a car that stopped nearby and got into the driver’s seat of the Mercedes SUV..

After finishing pumping gas, the owner encountered the intruder sitting in the driver’s seat, and while trying to open the door, fell to the ground as the vehicle sped off.

The owner suffered minor hand injuries while attempting to stop the theft, police said, but declined medical attention.

The stolen Mercedes, accompanied by the suspects’ vehicle, both were seen fleeing from the Post Road East scene onto Compo Road North, according to the report.

Police on Monday evening said there is an “active  investigation” into the incident.
