WESTPORT–Wakeman Town Farm (WTF), one of the oldest family farm properties in Westport, will host its ninth annual Family Fun Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 18.

Christy Colasurdo, WTF’s Event Director, said Family Fun Day is one of the farm’s largest family celebrations of the summer.

“This was an instant hit from the first event, drawing 300-plus people every year,” she said. “The activities and offerings have expanded to include live music, hands-on crafts and culinary activities, and a changing array of food and beverages.”

This year’s Family Fun Day is dedicated to the memory of longtime Wakeman Town Farm supporter Peter Romano of LandTech, whom Colasurdo said was “a familiar and beloved presence at farm events, known for warmly greeting visitors and happily serving ice cream.”

“His generosity, enthusiasm, and steadfast support helped make countless farm celebrations memorable, and his legacy continues to inspire the community,” she said.

Colasurdo said attendees can meet the 2.5-acre farm’s animals, including alpacas, sheep, chickens, bunnies and ducks. “Kids love to visit and feed the animals,” she said.

The event also will feature farm-themed arts and crafts; planting garden seeds; a tutorial on butterflies; a bubble show; story-time and books; colorful hair tinsel; and live music by Fairfield County’s indie-rock and pop band “Moss.”

Pizza, salads and mozzarella sticks will be available for lunch, along with complimentary ice cream, Colasurdo said.

Wakeman Town Farm has been owned by the Wakeman family for three generations and evolved over the years from a thriving agricultural operation and farm stand to a community farm and educational demonstration center, Colasurdo said. The farm’s first Family Fun Day was held in 2018, she said.

Event sponsors Al’s Angels, LandTech, Gault, Saugatuck Sweets and Help for Children will provide complimentary ice cream to all attendees, Colasurdo said.

“Wakeman Town Farm is deeply grateful for the continued generosity of its sponsors and looks forward to honoring Pete’s memory while bringing the community together for another unforgettable Family Fun Day,” she said.

She asked that attendees consider donating a box of diapers to Help for Children.

Wakeman Town Farm is located at 134 Cross Highway, and parking is available along Wakeman Town Farm Drive. A rain date is not scheduled.

Tickets range from $7.18 for a single child over age 2 to $12.51 for a single adult to $33.85 for a family of four or more. The cost of lunch is included in the ticket prices, and children 2 years old and younger can enter at no charge.

Tickets can be purchased in advance here.
