R-Rated – Image The A Chronicles

WESTPORT – The Westport Country Playhouse will serve as the host Sunday, July 12 at 5 p.m. for a production of “R Rated: Reproductive Rights and Resistance on Stage.” The event features four 10-minute play readings that explore reproductive health care and bodily autonomy. 

Tickets are available here; options include access to the 4 p.m. pre-performance reception and a $500 “host committee” ticket with deeper access.

The plays to be put on are 

  • “The Condom Play” by Joe Kolasa
  • “Safe Harbor” by James McLindon
  • “Now Here, Nowhere” by Cris Eli Blak
  • “Fifty-Six” by Liisa Rose

Keira Naughton is the director. Among the cast is Staples Class of 2011 graduate Max Samuels;  the full cast list available here.

“After the production, there will be an opportunity for conversation with local leaders, reproductive health advocates, and providers about the future of reproductive rights and how communities can take action,” a press release from both organizations read.

This is a joint production by The A Chronicles and Reproductive Equity Now. Westport -based The A Chronicles stages productions that promote reproductive equity; Reproductive Equity Now is a New England-wide organization promoting reproductive equity and abortion access. The subject of reproductive equity has gained new relevance since the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Reproductive Equity Now and their work.
