WESTPORT—Cristina Jiménez, a nationally recognized immigrant rights advocate and author of the USA Today bestselling memoir “Dreaming of Home: How We Turn Fear into Pride, Power, and Real Change,” will appear at The Westport Library on Thursday, July 31, for a conversation about the immigrant experience in America.

A MacArthur “Genius” Fellow and one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World (2018), Jiménez emigrated from Ecuador to Queens at age 13. She shared a one-bedroom apartment with her family, eventually attending CUNY and becoming a leading voice in the immigrant justice movement.

Her book, described by The Washington Post as “essential reading,” details her personal story as an undocumented immigrant and the rise of the youth-led movement that transformed fear into social power and policy change.

At the Westport event, Jiménez will be joined by members of Make the Road Connecticut, an advocacy group supporting immigrant communities across the state. Together, they’ll discuss the local immigrant experience and offer ways Westport residents can engage with and support immigrant rights efforts in Connecticut.
