WESTPORT–The Church of the Assumption promises “an unforgettable night of music, community, and celebration” next month with a concert headlined by Grammy Award-winner José Feliciano, as well as a raffle and live auction of an autographed guitar from the singer-musician’s collection.
Called “Summer Jam,” the evening features Feliciano and two other bands. The concert will take place at 7:00 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Westport Country Playhouse, 25 Power Court, Westport. Its proceeds will help the church attain its goal of raising $1.3 million to celebrate its 150th anniversary next year.
Originally founded in 1876, the congregation moved from Norwalk to its current Westport home in 1899. The congregation is restoring and enhancing the historic Riverside Avenue church it built and has occupied since then.
Light My Fire
Feliciano has been recording and performing since the 1960s and is best known for his rendition of the Doors’ “Light My Fire” and the Christmas favorite “Feliz Navidad.” A longtime parishioner and lector at the church, he volunteered to perform for the event.
“He’s wonderful,” said Cathy Romano, Director of Religious Education at the church. “He’s very generous to the parish and very generous to Westport.”

Rare Miguel guitar, Aruba, golf
The acoustic guitar to be auctioned, part of Feliciano’s private collection, was crafted by ex-Cuban master luthier Miguel Company, and presented to José in 1969. The auction ends following the concert. To participate, visit www.assumptionwestport.org
