NORWALK — The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum is celebrating the spooky season with two special events, focused on the history of body snatching and the mansion’s ghost stories.
“Grave Objections: A History of Body Snatching for Science” will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20th. James Henry, a New York City tour guide and docent at Brooklyn’s historic Green-Wood Cemetery, will discuss the illicit work in exhuming recently buried bodies to support medical training. The lecture will also discuss how the practice of body snatching, which disproportionately affected marginalized communities, sparked “anatomy riots” and persisted for years until modern laws and changing medical practices led to its end.
“Ghosts & Spirits at the Mansion will take place over three nights between Thursday, Oct. 22nd and Saturday, Oct. 24th. Several time slots are available between 6 p.m. and 8:40 p.m. on each day. These tours move through the mansion and reveal strange stories and unexplained occurrences related to the property. Guests will also learn about Victorian culture, Spiritualism, and Gothic literature.
