SAUGATUCK–Westporters will have a reason to watch the sun set this Sunday evening. Saugatuck Harbor will be under the rare light of a blue moon and, in the midst of that blue moon, will get the chance to have an evening kayak tour.
Kayaking conditions are expected to be close to perfect Sunday evening, with temperatures in the low-60s, clear skies and very low winds.
Set on the Saugatuck River from 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., those participating will get a chance to kayak up and down the open water with stable sit-on-top kayaks, perfect for all levels of experience when it comes to kayaking.
Per a press release from Sea Kayak Connecticut, as kayakers continue down the water, “tree-lined banks [will] give way to wider harbor views and the quiet glow of the moon settles over the coastline.”
This year’s Blue Moon, the second full moon within the month of May, will also arrive as a micromoon, thus appearing as slightly smaller than one may be used to with a full moon and softer in the night sky as it rises above the harbor and reflects across the calm evening water.
“As late spring begins to give way to summer, this evening tour offers a chance to experience the harbor during one of the quieter seasonal shifts along the water, with longer days, calmer nights, and the first hints of summer settling in,” the release read.
