NEW HAVEN — The comedy of William Shakespeare and the music of Felix Mendelssohn will come together this weekend as the New Haven Symphony Orchestra opens its 2026-2027 season.

The concert will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27th at Woolsey Hall. Led by Music Director Perry So, the concert will feature two-time Tony Award winner James Naughton, soprano Lisa Williamson, and the Elm City Girls’ Choir.

The program includes scenes from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream as well as Mendelssohn’s incidental music including the Wedding March, Katherine Balch’s musica pyralis, Howard Swanson’s Night Music, and Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel’s Hero and Leander. The dialogue and orchestral music will alternate throughout the concert so that each can illuminate the other.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for college students with ID, and free for youth under age 18 and active military members. For more information, visit newhavensymphony.org.
