WILTON–Staples boys basketball, the top seed in the tournament, punched its ticket to the FCIAC title game with a 66-51 win over No. 4 Fairfield Ludlowe in the semifinals, held at Ludlowe on Monday night. With the win, the Wreckers will take on No. 3 Ridgefield in Wednesday night’s championship matchup at Fairfield University.
It is a rematch of last year’s pinnacle contest, won by Staples, when the Wreckers and Tigers tip off at 7:30 p.m.
In the win over Ludlowe, Sam Clachko led the way with 23 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds. Austin Heyer dropped in 17 points and had a pair of steals. Mason Tobias scored 10, had three assists and grabbed six rebounds.
Staples led 17-9 after one quarter and 37-25 at the half. The Wreckers pulled away for a 53-36 lead heading to the fourth.
In the regular season finale on Feb, 25, the Wreckers beat Ridgefield 67-49. Staples is unbeaten at 22-0 overall.
