
CHESHIRE — Staples girls basketball tipped off the regular season in dominant fashion, defeating the host Chesire Rams 86-25 in a non-conference game on Friday night.
The Wreckers held Cheshire to just three field goals and blanked the Rams in the fourth quarter. Staples led 26-3 after one quarter and pulled comfortably ahead 50-15 at halftime.
Chloe Smith led Staples with 23 points, Freya Harvey dropped in 13, Marley Belzer 11, Emma Asiel scored 10, Maeve Best and Sam Selig each had eight and Addie Talbott six. Riley Carney and Kennedy Do tacked on four and three points, respectively.
The Wreckers drained nine 3-pointers with six players connecting from downtown — Selig, Harvey and Asiel each hitting a pair from beyond the arc.
Staples is back at it Saturday, Dec. 20 with a visit to Amity of Woodbridge at 6 p.m.
