The Staples Girls Track team kicked off the Indoor season this weekend by hosting the first FCIAC qualifier meet at the Staples Fieldhouse. Although not all of the team was able to attend, those who did, showed up strong in a variety of events.
Manar Abis began her state title defense of Pole Vault right where she left off last season, winning the event with a clearing height of 10′. Taylor Black was successful in her first foray into Long Jump this season, getting second place with a jump of 15′-11.25″. She also took second place honors in the 55M sprint with a time of 7.86 seconds. She was followed closely by newcomer, Jacielynn Denny, who took third in the event with a time of 7.92 seconds.
In the distance events, Julia Mannino led the Wreckers with a first-place finish in the 1000M with a time of 3:46.37 minutes and Brooklyn Nizzardo took third in the 600M with a time of 1:59.91 minutes.

Meanwhile, in Boston, at the Beantown Winter Classic, Ellie Ferraro finished in the Top 20 at this national meet in the 300M sprint with a state meet qualifying time of 43.55 seconds
The Staples girls will next return to the track on January 3 when they participate in the Hispanic Games in New York City.
