WESTPORT–The Staples varsity girls tennis team ended last week on a low note, losing in the FCIAC final to Darien.

Yesterday, their spirits were lifted by a win in the first round of the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference championship, over rival Greenwich, 5-2.

Staples head coach Jennifer Wider reported that Amelia Galin, Karenna Birns and Allie Francis won their singles matches and that the doubles teams of Jordana Latzman / Audrey Kercher and Sofia Palumbo / Caroline Caggiano won their matches.

Round two takes place today at 3:00 p.m., as #3-ranked Staples hosts #6-ranked East Hartford.
