A nearly perfect regular season is in the books for Staples girls tennis. The Wreckers posted a glossy record of 14-1, falling only to Greenwich Staples will be the No. 2 seed behind the Cardinals in the FCIAC Tournament, set to begin Wednesday.
Staples concluded the regular slate with four wins this week, including 7-0 triumphs at home over St. Joseph on Monday and Westhill on Tuesday. The Wreckers went on the road and defeated Ridgefield 6-1 on Thursday and Danbury 5-2 on Friday.
Against Ridgefield, all four singles players won with No. 1 Olivia Lazar coming out on top 6-0, 6-0, No. 2 Amelia Berkowitz winning 6-1, 6-1, No. 3 Adriana Gavriloiu winning 6-2, 6-1 and Kat Siegner victorious by a score of 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles play, the No. 2 tandem of Isbel Alfageme and Emme Sternberg won 6-2, 6-3 and the No. 3 team of Dylan Lehrer and Devyn Peffer won 6-1, 6-0.
Other players who got in on the winning in the St. Joseph and Westhill matches included Hunter Rossetter, Rachel Guzman, Abby Bandini, Raleigh Sipken, Kayla Stanley and Aanya Gandhi. Staples picked up eight wins by commanding 7-0 scores this spring.
