HARTFORD — In the third battle between two defense-oriented teams, the Staples girls soccer team will vie for the state championship against the Wilton Warriors, tomorrow at 4 p.m. in Hartford.
As they are playing in the division with the largest high schools state-wide, the winners will have bragging rights as the best girls soccer team in the state. The Wreckers have won the state championship once before–in 1989. Who did they beat in the final 32 years ago? The Wilton Warriors.
The two teams have played for a total of two hours and 20 minutes this season. Only a single goal has been scored in those two games. That was a header by senior Gaby Gonzalez, three days ago, which secured for Staples the FCIAC crown. After tomorrow’s game, her final game with a Wreckers jersey, Gaby will take her talent and spikes to Cornell University.

The game will take place 4pm Saturday at Dillon Stadium, 250 Huyshope Ave., Hartford.
The NFHS network is telecasting the game. A subscription required. Visit https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/events/ciac/gam1f0ee8beeb.
