NEW CANAAN–Host New Canaan proved to be a decent match for the Staples boys basketball team — through one quarter of play. The Wreckers, on Tuesday night, pulled away for a 69-47 triumph to improve to 4-0. They have won each of their contests by more than 10 points.
Staples led just 13-10 after one quarter but seized control with a 21-point outburst in the second en route to a commanding 34-19 halftime lead.
Matty Corrigan had a monster offensive performance with 28 points to go along with three rebounds and two steals. Austin Heyer was also on fire with 21 points.
Sam Clachko scored eight, dished out 13 assists, grabbed six rebounds and came away with four steals in a strong all-around effort.
Mason Tobias also had a balanced game with six points, four assists, six rebounds and a trio of steals.
Up next for the Wreckers is a home tilt with Brien McMahon this Friday; tipoff is at 7 p.m.
