WESTPORT–The Historic District Commission ruled in July that the permit to demolish the home at 36 Green Acre Lane must serve the full, 180-day waiting period. That waiting period elapsed earlier this year, allowing the owners of the property the right to be issued a demolition permit.
The two-story custom Tudor was built in 1930. It has 5,400-square-feet of living space, a basement and crawl space, a stone terrace, five bedrooms, four bathrooms, one half bathroom, a finished upper story and a finished ¾ story.
The property traded hands in 2020 for $2,570,000. It had previously traded for $1,400,000 in 1993. The property’s current assessment is $1,522,400.
Green Acre Lane is off of Compo Road S.

Unbelievable! It’s beautiful and full of character. They will probably put up a huge white box with black windows that I see everywhere.
While there are a number of homes lacking character that are ripe for demolition, this is not one of them. This home should be saved
Wow! I have been appalled for years by this process in Westport. Then my grandmother’s home was torn down and it was personal. It is a disgrace to allow a beautiful home with individual character to be demolished.
Westport was once a desirable community because of its quirky, historic, rugged New England individuality.
Now it is all about group think vanilla houses with black windows. Boring!
Incredible, incomprehensible , incompetent ,
irreversible decision.
So terribly sad.
