WESTPORT — A Fairfield man has been charged with stealing a baseball glove at a local sporting goods store.

Frederick Orsaia, 42, was charged with sixth-degree larceny in connection with the incident.

On Feb. 23, police were dispatched to ASF Sports & Outdoors, 1560 Post Road East, to investigate a shoplifting report.

A store employee told police that a man had stolen a baseball glove valued at about $300.

Using a video recording from the store’s surveillance system, as well as information for other law-enforcement agencies, police said they were able to identify Orsaia as a suspect.

During a later interview with detectives, Orsaia admitted stealing the glove, according to the report.

A warrant for Orsaia’s arrest was issued, and he turned himself in at Police Department headquarters on March 16.

He was released after posting $5,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on the charge March 30 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
