WESTPORT — A fundraiser is planned by the Westport Writers’ Workshop next month to benefit its outreach program that aims to help “people heal and grow through story.”

The event, “More Than Words: Celebrating Outreach to Unheard Writers,” will take place Friday, April 29, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., at Wakeman Town Farm, 134 Cross Highway.

Through its “More Than Words” program, the Westport Writers’ Workshop has partnered with groups such as the Center for Empowerment and Education, Homes for the Brave and Caroline House, as well as hosted free workshops for women with breast cancer, college essay writing for Fairfield seniors and for special needs children. Groups that would like to be considered for the outreach program, should email info@westportwriters.org.

“It’s our goal to gather Westport Writers’ Workshop members and beyond to raise the roof this spring on donations to benefit the change-making More Than Words program,” Liz Matthews, the workshop executive director, said in an announcement publicizing the event.

“Our outreach workshops have touched the lives of many and have filled a definite need, a wonderful win-win.”
