WESTPORT — Debates between candidates seeking election in November to the state General Assembly from two Westport legislative seats will be hosted Oct. 10 by the League of Women Voters of Westport.
The pre-election forum will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, in the Town Hall auditorium, 100 Myrtle Ave. The event also will be broadcast via the town’s website and cable-access Channel 79. LWV officials invite the public to submit questions for the candidates by emailing them to lwvwestport@yahoo.com.
Candidates running Nov. 5 in the following legislative districts are scheduled to participate:
136th House of Representatives district: Jonathan Steinberg, incumbent Democrat, and John Bolton, Republican.
26th Senate district: Ceci Maher, incumbent Democrat, and Kami Evans, Republican.
Details of a separate debate planned between candidates in the 143rd House of Representatives district, which includes a slice of southwestern Westport and a larger segment of Norwalk, have not been announced by the host, Norwalk League of Women Voters. Candidates in that district are Dominique Johnson, incumbent Democrat, and Peter Bang, Republican.

Kami Evans backed out of her debate at the Ridgefield library tonight. Instead of answering questions in front of an audience of more than 120, she punted. It’s disappointing that the Republicans have apparently offered up yet another unqualified candidate, someone unfamiliar with the issues and just dabbling in a little patriotism here and a little brand-building there.
