WESTPORT — Two freshmen state legislators whose districts include Westport have announced they will seek re-election in November.
State Sen. Ceci Maher and state Rep. Dominique Johnson, both Democrats, represent multi-town districts in the General Assembly.
Maher’s 26th Senate District, in addition to encompassing all of Westport, includes the entirety of Wilton, Weston and Redding, and parts of Ridgefield, Darien, New Canaan and Stamford.
Johnson’s 143rd House district includes parts of Westport and Norwalk.
Both won election to the legislature for the first time in 2022.
Westport’s third legislator, veteran state Rep. Jonathan Steinberg, a Democrat who represents the 136th District, has yet to publicly announce his plans for the November election.
Maher, a deputy president pro tempore of the Senate, is chair of the Assembly’s Children’s Committee, vice chair of the Higher Education & Employment Advancement Committee, and a member of the Energy & Technology, Human Services, Internship and Judiciary committees.
In an email announcing her re-election campaign, Maher said, “This last year as your senator has been the honor of a lifetime. I have worked on issues that are important to all of us: children’s mental health, gun violence prevention, the environment and reproductive freedom.”
She also cited among the General Assembly’s recent accomplishments: a cut in state incomes taxes, holding power companies more accountable, establishing early in-person voting and increasing education aid by $230 million statewide.
Johnson, a deputy majority caucus chair and assistant majority leader, is a member of the Education, Higher Education & Employment Advancement, and Judiciary committees.
In an email announcing her re-election campaign, Johnson cited among her legislative achievements helping to create the Early Learning Fund to promote childhood literacy; work to establish the Green Jobs Corps to attract clean energy employment opportunities to the state, and support for programs protecting older adults’ quality of life.
