WESTPORT — A local Republican has declared her candidacy for the 26th state Senate District seat in the Nov. 5 election.
Kami Evans, who has worked in marketing for businesses, community organizations and nonprofits, said she will advocate for “family values and community strength” in a Friday statement announcing her campaign.
“I am running for state Senate because I believe in the potential of our community,” Evans said in the statement. “Together, we can create a brighter future for our families, neighbors and children. I am committed to being a voice for all residents and working tirelessly to address the issues that matter most to our district.”
The Westport resident “believes strong families are the backbone of a thriving community and is dedicated to advocating for policies that support working families,” according to her campaign statement.
The 26th Senate District seat is currently held by freshman Democrat Ceci Maher of Wilton, who is running for re-election.
The legislative district, in addition to Westport, encompasses all of Weston, Wilton and Redding, and sections of Ridgefield, New Canaan, Darien and Stamford.
Evans holds a bachelor’s degree in corporate communications from Southern Connecticut State University and also attended the public leadership program at the Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
In her professional career, Evans has done marketing for the Westport Museum for History and Culture and the Westport Downtown Association, and was director of outreach for the Gymnastics and Cheerleading Academy in Fairfield.
She also has been active with nonprofits such as AWARE CT (Assisting Women through Action Resources and Education), the United Nations Association, Barnum Festival, Filling in the Blanks and Saugatuck Nursery School.

“Family values” means what, exactly? Banning books? Banning reproductive health care for women? Binge-watching episodes of “The Dukes of Hazzard”? I’m sure Ms. Evans will eventually develop some specifics to plop into her somewhat airy platform. With a degree in corporate communications, she can surely close that loop, tick that box, and maybe even jump on a call. Ceci Maher has facts, details, and an actual record of accomplishment.
People move to Westport due to the town’s strong emphasis on positive family values and high-quality education. These attributes create a desirable environment for raising children and fostering a tight-knit community, making Westport an attractive place to live. The town’s commitment to maintaining excellent schools and promoting family-friendly activities and values contributes to its reputation as an ideal location for families. This desirability drives up demand for housing, allowing Westport to command high property values.
THAT IS NOT WHY I MOVED TO WESTPORT. You are imposing your values on the rest of us? I moved here for the natural resources, safety, proximity to NYC, arts and culture, and progressive viewpoints. This has also become a town with a majority over the age of 50 years.
I, like Toni did not move to Westport for the schools. Quite frankly that is not relevant. Or barely has importance, unless you live under Newsom in California who has destroyed the schools and the state. We pray he is not on any ticket in any way shape or form. That being said, my family
values remain intact. And I see Westport as a town within proximity of New York City offering its residents the best of both worlds.
I do not see democrats in Westport supporting Newsom, and I am hopeful he is not on the ballot.
But running on family values is a milk and watery agenda that you aren’t running on anything..
considering the record of this towns last ( republican run) of watching while schools condition went down the toilet, it’s a bit rich to run on family values.. or talk about or insinuate schools and property values.
You might focus as an ex downtown association member on the utter destruction of the downtown.
Course that would mean your selectwomen supporters might be put in an uncomfortable position.
This is all very amusing.
