State Rep. Jonathan Steinberg

WESTPORT — State Rep. Jonathan Steinberg, senior member of Westport’s delegation to the General Assembly, announced Monday that he will seek election to a seventh term in November.

Steinberg, a Democrat whose district encompasses most of the town, announced his re-election candidacy in an emailed statement to supporters.

In 2022, Steinberg handily won election to his current term in the legislature by a better than two-to-one margin. A year earlier, however, he lost a close race for the town’s first selectman office to Republican Jennifer Tooker.

In his announcement, which asked supporters to pledge financial support for his campaign, Steinberg said, “I will continue to focus on the things that matter most to Westporters, and will build on my record of holding the utilities accountable, protecting our kids from vaping, dealing with the children’s mental health crisis, and defending women’s reproductive rights.”

Steinberg is the House of Representatives chairman of the Energy and Technology Committee and a member of the Public Health and the Transportation committees.

Locally, he previously served seven years on the Representative Town Meeting, three as the deputy moderator.
