WESTPORT — A Post Road East smoke shop has run afoul of the law for the third time in less than two years.

Savvy Smoker at 940 Post Road East on Tuesday was raided by Westport police detectives and agents from the state Drug Control Division as part of a continuing investigation into the unlicensed sale of cannabis products as well as sales to minors.

Investigators, executing a search warrant, seized “pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes, canisters of THC flower, THC resin products, THC vape cartridges and THC edible products,” according to the report.

The sale of all marijuana products is prohibited in Westport — except for medical purposes — under a text amendment adopted in 2021 by the Planning and Zoning Commission.

And in November 2023, the P&Z took the additional step of banning new smoke shops from opening in town.

Mohemed Zeine Hedimy, 24, of Brooklyn, N.Y., a sales associate at the shop, was charged with illegal sale/manufacture of cannabis. He was released after posting $2,500 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned March 28 at state Superior Court in Stamford.

In December 2023, the Savvy Smoker also was raided by local and state authorities and found to be illegally selling marijuana products, vapes and other unlicensed merchandise, according to the report at the time.

And last April, the shop’s manager, Omar Aliyhry, 29, of Bronx, N.Y., was charged with selling one kilogram or more of cannabis and conspiracy to sell one kilogram or more of cannabis, police said.
