Paulette E. Weibel, 98, of Westport, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025.
Paulette was born in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1926. She was the daughter of the late Max and Marie Lambert. Paulette immigrated to the United States in 1950 to marry her husband, Otto O. Weibel. They were married for 65 years until his passing in 2015. Together, they raised their three children.
Paulette resided in Westport for the past 60 years. She was a proud member of the NY/CT Swiss-American, had a love of nature, walking (with her trusty cane), knitting/sewing and always found the time to volunteer.
For years she aided her daughter’s Girl Scout troop, and thanks to the good fortune of her husband, she was given an opportunity to volunteer at the Westport Library. There, she was able to share her love of books and researching. After a few years the library received a grant, and her volunteering became a full-time job. She loved to help residents and local artists find photographs to aid in their research.
She was never afraid of the advancements with technology and would attend every training, provided at work, when systems were upgraded. She helped file and maintain the picture files for over 36 years. To this day, her beautiful handwriting can be seen on most files.
Paulette always shared her beautiful smile and sense of hope with those around her, both those she knew and strangers. She was an avid knitter with the “Happy Hookers,” where she and her friends chatted, while being creative. When she wasn’t knitting she was always grateful for her dear friends who met weekly, at Café Marciano. It was these friendships and her devotion to family and faith that helped her live a beautiful life.
She is survived by her son, Robert Weibel (Silvia) of Switzerland, and their three children, Jessica, Jonathan (Naima) and their children (Shayna, Kiana, Ayana), and Leonard (Vanessa) and their children (Nolan, Stella). Her daughter, Joyce Bottone (Joseph) of Westport, who have two children (Joseph and Jennifer). In addition, Paulette is predeceased by her husband, Otto Weibel; a son, Peter O. Weibel, and a brother, Jean Lambert.
The family will receive friends and family at the Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road East, on Monday, March 17, from 4-7 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 18, at 11 a.m. at Willowbrook Cemetery, 395 Main St.
Condolences for the family may be left online at www.hardingfuneral.com. Contributions in memory of Paulette, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Homes with Hope or Domestic Violence Crisis Center.
