WESTPORT — The manager of a Post Road East smoking products store has been charged with illegal marijuana sales at the shop.
Omar Aliyhry, 29, of Bronx, N.Y., was charged April 26 with selling one kilogram or more of cannabis and conspiracy to sell one kilogram or more of cannabis.
Police initiated an undercover investigation at the Savvy Smoker shop at 940 Post Road East last year in response to complaints that the business appeared to be selling illegal substances.
Undercover officers allegedly were able to buy marijuana products, which the store was not licensed to sell for either medical or recreational purposes.
Based on that evidence, Westport police and drug control agents from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, executed a search warrant last Dec. 19 and seized “a significant number of illegal items,” police said in a statement issued at the time.
Omar Aliyhry, the Savvy Smoker manager, was identified by police as the person responsible for purchasing items sold in the store, including the illegal cannabis products seized during the raid, according to the report.
A warrant for Aliyhry’s arrest was issued, and he turned himself in April 26 at Police Department headquarters.
He was released after posting $15,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned May 17 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
