WESTPORT — A New York man faces charges after he tried to withdraw money from a local bank using forged documents, police said.

Daniel Cobb, 44, of Beacon, N.Y., was charged Feb. 1 with second-degree forgery, third-degree identity theft and conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny.

Police were dispatched last Oct. 15 to an M&T Bank office on Post Road East where a man reportedly tried to withdraw money using documentation believed to be fraudulent.

After seizing the documents, police investigating the incident secured search warrants, video surveillance footage and information from other law-enforcement agencies, and were able to identify Cobb as the suspect, according to the report.

A warrant for Cobb’s arrest was issued, and on Feb. 1 he was extradited from a prison in Pennsylvania to face formal charges in Westport.

Cobb was held on $50,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 8 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
