WESTPORT — Two major civic events this weekend will have a big impact on downtown traffic and parking, police say in an advisory.
The annual “Sidewalk Sale,” organized by the Westport Downtown Association, will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
Many of the businesses along Main Street, Elm Street, Church Lane, Riverside Avenue, Sconset Square and Playhouse Square are scheduled to participate, displaying merchandise outdoors.
On Saturday, the annual “Great Duck Race,” sponsored by the Westport Sunrise Rotary Club, will take place on Jesup Green, with related activities scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
To accommodate the event, the Taylor Parking Lot, adjacent to Jesup Green, will be closed from Friday evening through Saturday evening.
Both events are expected to attract large crowds of pedestrians to the downtown area, as well as cause traffic congestion and limit parking availability, according to the police advisory.
