WESTPORT — A yellow flood will wash across Jesup Green on June 24, and despite this “fowl” deed, the Westport Sunrise Rotary Club hopes the event will help feather its nest with funds for charitable causes.

It’s the “Great Duck Race,” sponsored for a 14th year by Sunrise Rotary to continue supporting a range of charitable endeavors.

Family-friendly activities get underway at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 24, on Jesup Green, next to the Westport Library. The big event, when thousands of rubber yellow duckies — each assigned a number — paddle down a 160-foot-long slide, is expected about 1 p.m. There is no admission fee.

Raffle tickets, costing $20 each, are being sold for chances on the speediest ducks. They can be purchased online by clicking here, or from a Westport Sunrise Rotary Club member. The club reports that 100 percent of the event’s proceeds are donated to charities.

The first ten of the 3,000 ducks to cross the finish line win money for their ticket holders — first place is $5,000, second place $1,000 and there are eight $500 awards.

Before the race, morning festivities on the green will include activities like “Nerdy Derby,” pin making, bubble machines and a duck pond giveaway. Food trucks will be on hand to provide refreshments,
