WESTPORT — A new officer has been hired by the Police Department.

Melissa Bike, a 24-year-old Stratford resident, was sworn in Wednesday, according to a department announcement.

Bike earned a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice investigative services and a master’s degree in emergency management from the University of New Haven. She previously attended St. Joseph High School in Trumbull.

While in high school and college, Bike was a softball player who was cited as a top-10 player at her position.

After graduating from college, Bike was an intern at state Superior Court in Stamford. 

During the swearing-in ceremony, Bike was welcomed to the ranks of Westport police by Chief Foti Koskinas.
